Good morning/afternoon, honorable adjudicators, dear audiences and my fellow contestants. Global citizenship begins at home, what’s the innotation of that? Well, in my understanding, it means to live responsibly regardless of our limited ability, to do anything we can for this world in our daily life, and most importantly, to be spontaneous in seeking the common good for us human beings. Some may say ’Hot air! come on! It’s just too far away!’ No! The fact is just to the contrary.

How many people brush teeth without water? Few, right? The difference between the traditional way of brushing teeth and the way I have introduced just now is just water! And it is water that makes a significant difference. Have you noticed that each time when you brush your teeth you use 250 mls water. And we can easily draw the conclution that a man who brushes teeth twice a day will use 180ls water a year, which equals 39.6 gallons. 39.6, well, this is not a big figure! But what if we multiply that 39.6 by 6 billion? The result is undoubtedlly astonishing. What does that big figure mean? It means if every single individual on this planet uses that new way of brushing teeth, we’ll have a great deal of water saved. Viewing this from another angle, it means that we’ll have avoided producing a large amount of wasted water or polluted water.

So even by a cup of water everyone can make a great contribution to this world. It’s definitely not far away from us. In our daily life there’re many things besides that cup of water, cuz there’s always more to do than can ever be done.  

So ladies and gentlemen, When you can’t bear the bad smell from the polluted water, why not just brush your teeth without water first? When you feel sad for those workers working in the blood factories, why not just stop buying products from those factories first? And when you’re angry at Uncle Sam’s not signing Kyoto Protocol, why not just shut off your air conditioners first?

As long as we live responsibly, as long as we contribute to this world in our daily life, as long as we are spontaneous in seeking the common good for the human race, we’ll be able to hew out of a mountain of despair a stone of hope and make this world a beautiful symphony.
